Subject: Requesting for increment of card phone booths in Kathmandu University premises
Dear Sir,
We have forwarded a proposal for increment of card phone booths in Kathmandu University premises. Presently the ratio of telephone booths to the number of students is only one for all the students of KU.
We think there must be at least one card phone booths available in each hostels and a total of six card phones in KU.
The single card phone is present at the Administration Building which is in three hundred meters from the girls’ hostel and five hundred meters from the boys’ hostel.
Students choose to make calls at five to six in the evening after a tiring whole day class. It is time consuming to come up over a hill at Administration building to make a single call.
We hope that this proposal will be passed to facilitate the students of KU.

Introduction.
The purpose of this proposal is to increase the number of phones in in KU premises.
Kathmandu University an admired university of the country is one of the best universities. The increasing popularity has attracted students not only from Kavre, or neighboring Kathmandu but also from other parts of the country. Communication is an indispensable thing. Students need to communicate to their parents and their friends.
This installation would help the students to make phone calls easily without sitting in queues and without having to walk up to the administrative building.
2. Problems
1. The current problem is about the limited phone services due to limited number of card phones in K.U. premises.
2. The facility of only one card phone booth in the administrative building is very compromising service given to the student. Moreover the phone and student ratio one for whole KU students is very low.
2. .Hostellers sit in a long queue to make just a call, during holidays or in peak hours ( at five to six in the evening)
4. Due to existing curfew in the evenings, hostel gates close after eight. KU does not have boundaries bounded properly. It is insecure to go to administrative building to make phone calls.
.
3. ADVANTAGES OF CARD PHONES
1) Card phone does not need operators.
2) A single person can make a phone call by the help of a card.
3) Cards issued by Nepal Telecommunication Corporation is available at the reception of main building at Rs. 200.
4) It is cheaper and suitable for students.
DIFFICULTIES IN COMMUNICATION
Year after the rising popularity of KU attracts several more students. Among the students many of them stay within KU premises. At present about only 400 students stay in hostels. Students rarely have time to come up to main building leaving their studies. They prefer to come before dinner in the evenings when they come out from hostels. The time is same for all and this causes problem of sitting in a queue.
Further at nights when the phone costs are low students now only dream of making phone calls because of unavailability of phone.
During day time it will be better if students get phone booths to call rather than run upstairs to the main building.
SOLUTION
To solve this two extra phone booths should be installed at the hostels.
Each phone booth will be installed at
Two at the school of sciences
One at the electrical department
One at the mechanical department
One at the library block
